POPULAR QUESTIONS

There are typically 3 types of masonry contracts…

  1. Labour only (this type of contract means the contractor is only responsible for providing the required labour for the project, how the principle contractor and sub-contractor manage the flow of labour should be agreed upon within the pre-contract minutes)
  2. Labour & Plant (this type of contract means the contractor is responsible for providing all required labour, plus the necessary plant equipment for the project, this will most likely include the operative labour required to operate said plant machinery, as each project varies is plant & labour requirements, all of this should be discussed & agreed within the pre-contract minutes)
  3. Labour, Plant & Materials (this type of contract means the contractor is responsible for providing all of the required labour & plant, including the purchasing of all materials to complete the project)

Insurance for contractors is an efficient way to protect your reputation. It also helps to make sure that you meet the professional and legal standards of an employer, while covering your back should you make any mistakes that could cost your client financially.

Seeing proof of insurance before any contract is drawn up is essential for both parties.

As a principle contractor hiring a sub-contractor to complete a project for your client, a vital question you should ask is who will be managing my project?

An establisher sub-contractor should have site foremen managing the labour supply, enabling the tradesmen to solely focus on their work.
